Altar Rosary Society
St. Bernadette Altar Rosary Society is made up of women of all ages and backgrounds with a common faith and strong desire to serve and help their Parish maintain its status within the Brooklyn Dioceses. The women preserve the beauty of the altar and the church by cleaning and decorating for special holy days. They raise funds, volunteer and serve at many church and parish functions throughout the year.

The Altar Rosary Society works closely with the clergy and the religious and is one of the more prominent groups of the laity within St. Bernadette's parish.
Holy Name Society
The Holy Name Society, which originated in 1274 at the Council of Lyons, prescribes that the faithful should have a special devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus.

The Society , in addition to respecting the most Holy Name of God, promotes faith in the Catholic Church and loyalty to one'
s country, respecting all lawful authority both civil and religious. Members perform Corporal Works of Mercy as well as Spiritual Works of Mercy.

The Holy Name Society of St. Bernadette, consisting of men and women, meets the Monday following the second Sunday of every Month (except July and August) at 7:30 p.m., in the Cafeteria of the Church. Father John is our Spiritual Advisor. Nicholas Carpinelli serves as President; Frank Teti, Vice President and Camille Teti, Treasurer. Dues are $20.00 yearly.

In addition to the aforementioned Corporal and Spriritual Works of Mercy, St. Bernadette's Holy Name Society hosts Hospitality Sunday and Bake Sales during the year. The Society also participates in the Spring Festival, and arranges Religious and Social Bus trips. Last year we visited Padre Pio's Shrine in Pennsylvania, and this past May a trip to the Sight and Sound Spectacular also in Pennsylvania. Our President is currently putting together other trips, which are open to parishioners and friends.

We encourage all to join us at our meetings. Perpetuating the Holy Name of Jesus will instill in your lives a sense of great comfort and fulfillment.
Parish Pastoral Council
At the direction of Bishop DeMarzio, our Parish Pastoral Council was formed to create an ongoing process to assess the Parish’s strengths and weaknesses and then formulate a plan to accomplish goals which would revitalize the parish community.

Members of the Council are nominated by their fellow Parishoners. (This process was announced at the Masses one weekend so that people would have time to consider candidates they would like to recommend. The following week the names were submitted in writing and collected at each of the Masses.) All those nominated attended the first meeting (approx. 80 people) with a representative from the Diocese who explained the purpose of Councils. We were then asked to return for a second meeting.

Approximately 20 people returned for an evening of reflection, and they voted for the current Council Members. The term for each member is 3 years, and an individual can serve 2 terms.

After conducting & reviewing information gathered from the One on One Conversations that took place in October 2006, the PPC has established 3 committees:
  • "Worship" - This committee was formed to help foster a stronger sense of worship in our Parish by reaching out to all parishioners. Our focus is to welcome those who may have strayed away from the Church; welcome any new members to our Parish and to strengthen the faith of our youth. We hope we are successful in our goal is to establish religious ceremonies that will help our attendance at Mass grow in the love of the Lord.

  • "Evangelization" - Evangelization means the proclaiming of the Good News of Christ, not only by words, but more importantly by our actions. The St. Bernadette Evangelization Committee achieves our goals by reaching out to the members of our Community of Faith.

  • “Outreach” - This committee was established to help foster a sense of community in and around the parish as well as to reach out to the less fortunate. The goal of the Outreach Committee is to plan parish events geared toward the needs of our parishioners - such as seminars, workshops and other events. The Committee will also strive to participate in community service events around the Diocese and develop parish drives (i.e. food, clothing drives) to help the needy.
